What this notice covers
Cookie rules can apply to cookies, local storage, scripts, tags, pixels, web beacons, and other technologies that store information on or read information from a browser or device. This notice also covers server-side article measurement initiated by the browser and identifiers used by advertising providers.
Privacy settings record
After you continue, allow analytics, or save analytics settings, the site stores a versioned first-party record in local storage. The record contains the settings-policy version, whether optional Blog analytics is enabled, and the time of the choice. It does not contain your name, email address, IP address, or an advertising identifier.
If the settings model materially changes, its version may change and the website may display the privacy bar again. Removing the record through browser controls also causes the bar to reappear.
Necessary
Necessary storage supports requested functions and basic operation. This includes the privacy-setting record and the Light or Dark theme preference. When you manually select a theme, a first-party preference is stored so later visits can use that choice. Security, delivery, rate limiting, and human-verification systems may process technical request information server-side.
Analytics
Optional Blog analytics is disabled unless you allow it. When enabled and a Blog article becomes visible, the browser sends a small same-origin request so Overspill can count lifetime unique and repeat views. The server derives a keyed one-way identifier from the article ID and the trusted connection IP address and stores only the derived identifier and aggregate counts, not the raw IP address. Bots, social-preview agents, prerenders, and prefetch requests are excluded where identified.
Confirmed Blog share actions are also recorded only while Analytics is enabled. Turning Analytics off prevents new view and share requests from that browser; it does not rewrite aggregate publication totals already produced.
Advertising
Advertising is enabled by default and may load automatically when the site opens. Overspill’s Cookie settings do not disable advertising. When Google AdSense or another advertising vendor runs, third parties may place and read cookies in users' browsers and may use web beacons, IP addresses, browser or device information, and other identifiers because of ad serving.
Google and other vendors may use collected information for contextual or personalised ad selection where permitted, frequency control, fraud prevention, measurement, and reporting. Promotional messages configured directly by Overspill may also use first-party display-count storage so the same campaign does not appear more often than configured.
This site privacy bar is not a Google-certified IAB Transparency and Consent Framework consent-management platform. Before personalised ads are served to users in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, Overspill must additionally configure Google's consent-management platform or another Google-certified platform where required. That regional platform may present choices required by applicable law or Google policy.
Third-party media
YouTube embeds use YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed domain, but YouTube may still receive your IP address, browser information, and page context when a player loads and may use cookies or comparable storage under its own policies. Other supported third-party providers may process similar technical information.
Managing storage and choices
Use Cookie settings in the footer to allow or disable optional Blog analytics. That control does not disable advertising. Browser cookie controls, privacy extensions, device advertising settings, Google Ad Settings, and participating-vendor tools may provide additional controls.
Blocking or clearing browser storage may reset theme, campaign-frequency, and privacy-setting records. Browser privacy tools or content blockers may also prevent third-party media or advertising from loading. Disabling personalised advertising does not necessarily remove contextual or non-personalised advertising.
